History

How long has the annual Valla Volkswagen Spectacular been going for?

We started the show 1984

How did the event get started?

Back in the 80’s My husband Mark Pell and myself Donna Pell, had a Volkswagen repairs and spare parts business in Nambucca Heads. My husband, Mark had a brain wave to organise a big get together for VW owners and enthusiast’s on the North Coast.
We organised a day get together which was held at Raleigh Raceway- Amusement Park. Just North of Nambucca Heads. Mark and Myself were surprised that 110 VW’s came from as far as Sydney and Brisbane. Mark said that it was great seeing so many VW enthusiasts together. We have done that now, we don’t need to do it again.

I said you can’t stop there!! So I keep it going. ‘Whooooo’ I did not realise what I said in those days. And here we are still doing it in 2016. We now have our family helping us plus heaps of volunteers. It was so popular we kept doing it every year until the late 90’s when it became too much to organise every year so we started to do it every 2nd year.

Now this is our 21st show and 32 year. In 2014 we had over 750 VW’s coming from just about every part of Australia.

One of the biggest changes we have noticed with our VW Spectacular that originally the majority of vehicles were beetles and now the VW Kombis have been resurrected and some of older model of Kombies are now reaching approx. $80,000+

What goes into organising the Valla VW Spectacular each year?

After each VW Show we take booking for the following show which will be held in two years time. (even though almost everyone has already rebooked already).

It takes us approx. 12 months to organise the show as we do the accommodation bookings, the organising of the events, sponosrsoring merchandise etc

From how far away have people come to attend the Spectacular in the past?

VW Enthusiasts in the past have come from America and England and in 2016 we had some VW Enthusiasts coming from New Zealand.

How much would it cost to attend?

VW Entrants the cost will be Family $30 and $20 a person. This allows them to join in for the whole week. Day Visitors that come to Valla Beach Tourist Park on the Saturday Afternoon & Sunday will be charged a gold coin by Local Charity Groups assist us over the whole week.

  • Nambucca Rotary
  • Nambucca Lions and
  • Local VRA Road Rescue Squad.

We aim to raise over $7000 to be divided between these 3 groups.

It is great to see all of Nambucca and Coffs Harbour getting behind us. This show and other car shows that are held in Nambucca over the year are great for our tourism.

How can people get a hold of a booking form?

People can download a booking form from our web site, www.volkswagenspectacular.com, where there is a menu option for the Booking Form.

When is the deadline date for people to get their booking forms in?

People can still send their booking forms in right up to the weekend but we would really appreciate if they could get them in sooner especially as the catering and bookwork being completed before the event takes the pressure off on the week of the show.

2018 saw our 23rd Show and the 35th Year

We had over 750 VW over the full week of the Volkswagen Spectacular. We relocated to Macksville (sadly no longer at Valla Beach Tourist Park). The relocation was very successful with more room to spread our wings. We were able to raise in excess of $12,000 for our charity groups. We were lucky to welcome the NSW Fire and Rescue to our many volunteers. The next Volkswagen Spectacular is in 2020 July 26thto Aug 3rd, 2020 We have the privilege to been in the finals for the regional tourist awards  The next Volkswagen Spectacular  is in 2020 July 26thto Aug 3rd, 2020
